If you take this film’s final line literally, Quentin Tarantino thinks Inglourious Basterds is his masterpiece. But even if he’s just being cheeky, few would argue that it’s right near the top.

It’s the work of art that brought Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Mélanie Laurent, and Daniel Brühl into our hearts and minds. It’s Tarantino’s most ambitious work, and it introduced his late-career interest in alternate histories. But more than anything, it’s fun to watch.
