Back in 2008, The Dark Knight took the world by storm. No one had done a sweeping Batman epic like this, one that commented on society’s ills while galloping from set piece to dynamite set piece; throw in a Heath Ledger performance for the ages and you had a film that most people perceived as a Best Picture contender.
But now, in 2020, does it hold up? Or does Christopher Nolan’s comic book movie-slash-crime drama, clearly inspired by Michael Mann’s Heat, fall short?
