The Movies We Pretend to See

There should be more polls about things like this and fewer featuring Republican Iowan voters and Barack Obama's birth certificate. LOVEFiLM, a British movie rental service, took an informal survey of movie fans to find out which films people lie about actually having seen. The "winner?" The Godfather. Here is the full top 10:

1. The Godfather (30 per cent) 2. Casablanca (13 per cent) 3. Taxi Driver (11 per cent) 4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (9 per cent) 5. Reservoir Dogs (8 per cent) 6. This Is Spinal Tap (7 per cent) 7. Apocalypse Now (6 per cent) Tied for 8. Goodfellas (5 per cent) Tied for 8. Blade Runner (5 per cent) 10. The Great Escape (4 per cent)

What does this tell us about people? Well, based on this list, it says that people are a little more ashamed when they haven't seen a universally revered film as opposed to a not-so-known piece.

Despite being a big film buff, I have to say I haven't actually seen one of the movies on this list. I'd like to say I wouldn't lie about it, but I can understand the impulse because I've done it before with different flicks.

Do you ever lie about the movies you've seen? If so, which ones?
