The Perfect (Budget) Halloween Movie Marathon

Halloween is exactly a week away, and, if you're like me, one of your favorite ways to get in the spirit of the season is to watch horror movies. AMC's Fearfest is a wonderful place to start if you're seeking a terror fix, but let's face it, we're not novices around these parts. So instead of sending you off to basic cable, where you'll be missing out on violence, gore and nudity, we'll send you off to Amazon, with eight horror movies to watch between now and All Hallow's Eve. Because we're also cost-conscious, we'll also be keeping the cost of this marathon under $50 -- $49.02 to be exact. Just click on the titles if you wish to own any of these bargains.

Oct. 24: Hellraiser [Blu-Ray] ($8.99)

What, you don't want to see Pinhead tear someone apart?

Oct. 25: Dawn of the Dead [Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Plus Digital Copy] ($6.99)

I know the George Romero original is considered a classic -- and I love it -- but I prefer the remake. Ving Rhames -- need I say more?

Oct. 26: Pet Sematary [DVD] ($5.89)

"Sometimes dead is better."

Oct. 27: Paranormal Activity [DVD] ($7.49)

Forget The Blair Witch Project, this faux-documentary is one of the few movies ever made that I actually find frightening.

Oct. 28: Drag Me to Hell [DVD] ($4.99)

A curse and a creepy, grotesque gypsy woman are a good start for any movie and director Sam Raimi, of Evil Dead fame, knows how to take it home. There's an unfortunate amount of Justin Long, but other than that, this is a genuinely chilling film.

Oct. 29: The Exorcist [DVD] ($5.69)

You can turn some heads with this choice.

Oct. 30: Child's Play [Amazon Instant Video] ($2.99)

We've got to save money, and you'll need to laugh after the previous six films. Enter Chucky.

Oct. 31: Halloween [DVD] ($5.99)

If it wasn't such a great movie, this would be a painfully cliche choice. Michael Myers chasing around Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage friends around Haddonfield, Illinois is horror at its finest, and Myers' mask still gives me the creeps to this day.
