Good Lord, There's a 'Best Popular Film' Oscar Now

When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a new category for Best Popular Film, we knew an emergency episode of the In Reel Deep Podcast was necessary. We've laughed at the Oscars for years now, but this move may be their most embarrassing to date.

Is it a cheap ratings ploy to get more statues in the hands of movies like Black Panther? How will it affect horror, comedy, and other genres that are already traditionally ignored in the Best Picture race? And does this further devalue the Oscars, from 'meaningless but harmless awards show' to 'irrelevant arbiter of nothing'? We break it all down, podcast style.
